Questions for Interested Guys

For many reasons, I have been thinking about this for quite some time. I have taught on this topic before and may need to use these questions myself someday. Quite a while ago I saw this list of questions and they have me adding some others.

Here’s a developing list for fathers to ask young men who might be interested in their daughters.  I will occasionally be adding to this list, and when I do, I’ll bring the post to the top of the blog. These are not in any particular order.

  • How old are you? At what age do you think you will be ready to get married?
  • Do you have any debt? What is the nature of your debt?
  • How do you budget your money?
  • What characteristics does my daughter have that would strain your relationship?
  • What characteristics do you have that would strain your relationship?
  • What do you think you will do with your life vocationally?
  • …..

  1. How about:

How fast can you run when I get out my shotgun?

Fathers always like to ask that one!

  2. femalefundamentalist

    How about your salvation testimony?

  3. What positive Christian character traits have you garnered from your parents?

    What negative ones?

Did you have consistent family devotions growing up?

Are you more like your mom or dad?

What was your typical daily routine while growing up?

May sound like an interrogation, but the answers to these questions will provide some insight as to how this young man will be in his own home on a daily basis.

  4. I would add that I wouldn’t be doing this “interrogation style.”

Some, I would ask “right off.”

Most, I would find out while he is getting to know our family. He gets to know us before he get too serious with her!

  5. Michael Marshall

    1. 42, still a batchelor.
    2. Just buit a house with my own two hands, then watched the Michigan econonmy tank, so I know what debt is.
    3. Dont need it - dont spend it. Some gets invested, the rest goes to debt
    4. Vocationally, I would preach, since that’s what God called me to do.

Ok, since #1 just put me out of running for your daughter, if by chance you know someone elses daughter, I’d like to chat with the parents of that other daughter…..
