Well, I did a little makeup today. I was supposed to do one page on Saturday, one on Sunday, then two per day on weekdays. I didn’t really start until Monday, so I had some makeup to do. Now today, I have just one to do tomorrow, one on Saturday, and one on Sunday to put me up to 28 pages total. That is good – progress. I think I might be overdoing it on the ancient education, but it is so interesting to me. I hope the committee thinks it is interesting and relevant. So far I think I have written seven or eight pages about Jewish, Athenian, and Roman education. To me it is relevant, because this is where the medieval, renaissance and reformed educators found the material to put a classical education together and it is from them that modern classical educators have learn what to do. Tomorrow I’ll write about the education in the early church. Hopefully, there’ll be enough material there to last for more than a page and I can save some up for Saturday and Sunday. After this section, I’ll have to study up on medieval education – the professions, the sciences, and the seven liberal arts, which are divided into the trivium and quadrivium. I have a lot of books about the history of education, I hope the information is easily found. Then I need to beef up the sections on modern classical education. I’ll need to read David Hicks’ book on Norms and Nobility. I don’t think it is too long, and I’ll have to find my copy of Susan Wise Bauers’ Well Trained Mind. I need to begin to articulate a Christian philosophy of education in the review of the literature section also. This shouldn’t be hard, but I have a lot more sources than I used to have. I’d like to use some new ones. They also may help with some seed thoughts for Christian Education Sunday and Teacher Orientation.
That reminds me. I need to learn how to use the new Classroom Manager software so I can teach all the teachers how to do it during the Orientation. I hope that it’s not too hard or cranky. It sure seems like it will make things go much more smoothly in the academy office. It would be nice if it went so well as to make us want to use it on the college level.
Time’s Up – Hooray!!
