Real Education – What I’m Reading

“The process of education is one that concerns every faithful parent, and the goal of such education is to impart knowledge to the child–as long as that word ‘knowledge’ is biblically defined. What should a well-educated Christian child know as a result of growing up in his home?

“When we ask this question, our natural instinct is to turn to the kind of knowledge measured by SAT tests, but the bedrock knowledge parents are responsible to impart is an unreflective knowledge of the love of God. In short, [Christian] children should know ‘in the liver’ that God loves them and will keep His promises to them. They will come to know this through the instrument of parental love, and parental teaching that links the love they enjoy in the family with the love they enjoy in the family of God.” (My Life for Yours, p. 126)
