Psalm 141 – Thoughts From My Devotions


Let the righteous smite me; it shall be a kindness: and let him reprove me; it shall be an excellent oil, which shall not break my head: for yet my prayer also shall be in their calamities. (Psalms 141:5)

I think everyone could use this as a reminder.  I hope that I do when I am reproved. People that really care will “smite” or “reprove” when needed, even though many times those actions seem to hurt relationships. Righteous people will think as the psalmist does here. Being reproved or smitten by the righteous is a kindness and an excellent oil.

Dr. Jeff Voegtlin has been in Christian service for over twenty years. He is an associate pastor at Fairhaven Baptist Church in Chesterton, Indiana, and a Vice President of Fairhaven Baptist College. As conductor of the church and schools' orchestra program, and overseer of the educational program of the college, his teaching has helped to train hundreds of young adults to prepare for full-time ministry. After completing a bachelor's degree from Fairhaven Baptist College, he received a master's degree in Bible from Pensacola Christian College.
