This list is by no means exhaustive. I don’t know if it’s the coffee or something else, but I could not sleep for the first 2 1/2 hours I was in bed and I was thinking about thanksgiving, so I figured I’d get up and write down some of my thoughts:
I am thankful that I know the one true God. I could have been born in a heathen land and been taught to worship a pagan god, but God allowed me to be born in America, and beyond that to godly parents, and even further to parents in His ministry “full-time.” God is a gracious (giving) God!
I am thankful for Annette, my wife. I needed her when I got married; I need her now; and I’ll need her tomorrow also. She truly is an help MEET for me. God is a gracious God!
I am thankful for my family. They all love God and seek to please Him with their lives and in the way they’re rearing my nephews and nieces. As much as my selfish, “adult”erated personality tires of them, I still love to read to them and do other “uncle” things with them. I’m thankful that I too can believe God that my nephews and nieces will grow up to serve Him, because their parents are “Standing on the Promises.” I am thankful for my parents, also. They are truly concerned about all of their children and really try to help us without managing our lives. God is a gracious God!
I am thankful for Kiandy and Kelly. Right now, they’re the children God has given us responsibility for. They add joy to the good life I already have. Today, I am especially thankful about them. They took a stand “against” their natural family all on their own. Annette and I have wondered if or when we would see them take this type of spiritual stand. They did over the Thanksgiving holiday. God is a gracious God!
I am thankful for my “job.” I love to study the Word of God, and I love to teach; and God has brought me to a place and given me those “chores” to do everyday. I get to help people in many different ways, and it is a joy. God is a gracious God!
I’m even thankful for my prospectus/dissertation. It has shown me weaknesses in my life that I need to work on. Things like how lazy I am, and how much I procrastinate. It also has shown me some of how much I can do through Christ’s strength. It teaches me to “count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations.” God is a gracious God!
I am thankful for my things. I don’t know how I amassed so much stuff. I have a 3,000 sq. ft. house that is furnished beautifully (thanks to my wife-who came from God). I have computers, my first choice in cars, so much food I’m fat, and too many other things to list. God is a gracious God!
I am thankful for my health. Even with so much to eat that I’m fat, I very healthy; and so is my wife. God has blessed us this way. God is a gracious God!
There are other things, but my mind must be starting to tire. Thanks be to God for His graciousness and for Thanksgiving.
It is amazing how much the lord has blessed us, isn’t it!
God is so good.
