“An open mind, in questions that are not ultimate, is useful. But an open mind about the ultimate foundations either of Theoretical or of Practical Reason is idiocy. If a man’s mind is open on these things, let his mouth at least be shut. He can say nothing to the purpose.” (The Abolition of Man, p. 48)

Being opened minded is vital in interacting with people on a regular basis. Not that you need to compromise, but listening to the other person in the conversation without prejudging is futile.
Speaking of questions, I stil have a few unanswered when you have time.:0)
I like the way Alan Bloom saw it in his book, The Closing of the American Mind. Only those who believe can open their minds to anything. The ones who tolerate everything open their minds to nothing, because they refuse to believe anything. Only people who will reject something can truly open their minds to everything. I also find this every time I go door to door—the more tolerant and pluralistic, the less open. Berkeley is the most closed minded city in America.
