Isaiah 3 – Thoughts From My Devotions

For, behold, the Lord, the LORD of hosts, doth take away from Jerusalem and from Judah the stay and the staff, the whole stay of bread, and the whole stay of water, The mighty man, and the man of war, the judge, and the prophet, and the prudent, and the ancient, The captain of fifty, and the honorable man, and the counselor, and the cunning artificer, and the eloquent orator. And I will give children to be their princes, and babes shall rule over them. And the people shall be oppressed, every one by another, and every one by his neighbor: the child shall behave himself proudly against the ancient, and the base against the honorable. (Isaiah 3:1-5)

I know this is speaking directly of Jerusalem, but aren’t there a lot of comparisons to our immediate situation in America that come to mind while reading this? No mighty men, no judges, no prophets, no prudent men, no regard for ancient men, no leaders, no honorable men, no counselors, no artificers, no orators. Only children to lead and rule over us (“children’s rights” and “kids first”). Everyone oppressed by every other person (litigation). Children not heeding their parents’ wisdom and the “base” proudly defying the “honorable.”
