Now when Jesus had heard that John was cast into prison, he departed into Galilee; (Matthew 4:12)
The thought of fleeing danger for our own protection came to my mind here. Some people would say a Christian should never flee; always stand up for what’s right and suffer for Jesus! And I’m sure there are many times when that’s the right thing to do, but here, Jesus left a certain area, presumably because John had been cast into prison. The implication is that He didn’t want to be cast into prison, and so he left the area.

I think it’s OK to flee. Paul left Thessalonica after 3 weeks because of how rough it got. I don’t think I’ve thought of that as an application of this text though. Jesus regularly said that it was not yet his time as an explanation for why. Interesting thought though.
I hope most who read here can tell that these are JUST thoughts. I have never really studied out any of the passages for the “Thought From My Devotions.” They are only some of what “pops” into my head while reading that I can remember later and post.
I guess what I’m saying is that these thought probably need refined and/or corrected many times and I welcome that.
Hello! I like this site.
Perhaps Jesus traveled directly into the territory of the enemy? Herod Antipas was ruler over Galilee. And he put John the Baptist in prison (Mat 14:3).
How do I get e-mail updates from this site? How about RSS?
There are instruction on how to get email updates by following the “This Blog In Your Box” link on the right. I don’t know for sure about RSS, but I think the feed is at this address: http://www.jeffvoegtlin.com/blogs/atom.xml
Hope this helps and is a blessing. Thanks,
