Genesis 25 – Thoughts From My Devotions

And these are the years of the life of Ishmael, a hundred and thirty and seven years: and he gave up the ghost and died; and was gathered unto his people. (Genesis 25:17)

As I was reading this morning, among other things, I wondered:  Do you think Ishmael was saved?  He was a son of Abraham.  Abraham ruled his house well.  He and Isaac together honored Abraham in his death.  Why wouldn’t he be?  Of course, today, it’s hard to think that way because his descendants are so violently opposed to Israel and Christianity.  But I think Ishmael himself was probably saved.

  1. I believe both Hagar and Ishmael were saved – the Bible teaches that the Lord heard Ishmael’s prayer, and God revealed Himself to Hagar twice – once giving her an awesome name to know Him by: the God that liveth and seeth me. Various things about the accounts of these two cause me to believe they were saved – unfortunately Abraham and Sarah’s lack of faith (in Abraham fathering a child through Hagar) caused so many problems, that still affect the world today.
