Psalm 34 – Thoughts From My Devotions

Depart from evil, and do good; seek peace, and pursue it. (Psalms 34:14)

I think many people use this verse to justify actions of life that help them “just get along with everybody.”  I didn’t include it here, but it seems to me that the context of this verse is related to our relationship with God Himself.  If that is the case, pursuing peace with God is the highest priority.  And since there are so many in this world actively and passively opposed to him, there is no way to be “at peace” with all men.  I want to be at peace with God.

I would add that the peace we gain through justification is not all that is being referred to here, in my opinion.

  1. The peace we gain from salvation is truly tremendous. The peace we can have with God as we serve Him is just as tremendous. There is no reason to go through this life wondering if we are doing the will of God. We can know and have peace about it. Good portion of scripture.
