As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him: (Colossians 2:6)
Do or Done. This is often a comparison made to show the difference between the worlds concept of how to please God and get into heaven and the truth. The world (or religion) says do. Do this; do that; do, do, do. The Bible says done. Christ finished the work. Nothing else can be done to help us gain heaven.
This verse in Colossians tells us that living in Christ, or walking in him is to be done in the same way. The Bible says “AS.” In the same way that you received Him, walk in Him. Works are a fruit of walking in Him, but when all we are told to do is do, do, do. When our focus is on the fruit so much more that what produces fruit, we become worldly Christians. We begin to believe that we must do things in order to please God. We must always remember that pleasing God is Done. It is done the same way that we received Christ.
In another sense, I believe we should be concerned much less about what we are doing for Christ and be more concerned with how much we are like Jesus. Someone has said that we should never be satisfied with what we are doing for God — I don’t think we should be focused on what we are doing for God. We should be focused on how close to God we are and how much like Christ we act. Christianity is internal and external, but for me, right now, I need to develop the internal much more. There’s plenty of emphasis on the external.
