We got up at 5:45 a.m. this morning for a run on the sports deck. The boat docked in Alexandria, Egypt at 6:00 a.m. ‘Nette could feel the boat slowing down and she felt like she was going to slide off of her bed. After we ran, our breakfast arrived in our room at 7:00 a.m.
We left for our tour of Cairo at 8:00 a.m. Our guide was great. We also had a body guard with us and he was loaded with an Uzi. Very nice people. It was a 3-hour drive to the pyramids. The day was very hot. The pyramids were neat to see and we paid a lot of money to go inside but it was just a long narrow uphill climb to an empty room.
We took a lot of pictures and Sam Brater had a small experience with an Egyptian and a camel. We also got to see the Sphinx which is some kind of giant shrine.
The last place we visited was the Citadel of Salah ad-Din (Saladin) built around 1170 A.D. We had to take our shoes off when we entered the masque and they thought Bonnie’s skulottes were too short so they gave her a robe to put on.
We crossed the Nile River several times on our trip. There are many interesting buildings and structures. On the drive back, I noticed some things that looked like 15 foot tall bee hives. They are pigeon catchers.
When we got back to the ship, we ate a buffet dinner and then watched the ship pull out of the harbor. While leaving the port, we saw two half-sunken ships. This evening was the rockiest the boat has been so far.
