There is a significant difference between obedience and respect. Someone who is only concerned with obedience longs for the time when they are not around the person they would have to obey so that they can do whatever they desire. Someone who is concerned with respect gives deference to the desires of those they should obey even when they’re not around or no longer have any immediate authority over them.
Do you merely obey those in authority over you? Do you do the things you want because no one’s telling you that you can’t?
OR
Do you have respect for the time and effort people put into your life? Now that you’re on your own, do you even care what your parents and others who’ve trained you think you should do? Do you think about what they would want? Do you change what you’re doing because you know they would think differently? Or, do you just do whatever you want because they’re not an immediate authority anymore?
