Hello again from Kenya,
In my hurry to send out the update yesterday I used the wrong zip code for Cleveland Baptist Church. I used the zip code for my parents house instead of the church. The correct zip code is 44144.
I want to thank the few people who contacted me today expressing their desire to help in the humanitarian crises that we have here in Kenya. God bless you for your concern and love for the people of Kenya.
The side of town where we live (east) has settled down considerably. The outsiders that came in and started the trouble are either lying low or have gone elsewhere. The tension is still very high but there was no violence today. The other side of town (west) remains volatile with the police creating a buffer zone to try and keep the violence down. The whole town remains under a curfew with the military patrolling at night.
Last night an opposition member of parliament was shot twice in the head at his home in Nairobi. When word came out this morning of his murder a new wave of violence ripped through many parts of Kenya. People on both sides of the political divide performing atrocities against those of other tribes. This evening it was reported that the Mungiki (tribal sect that started the recent trouble in Nakuru) has taken credit for the killing and has issued threats against a number of news reporters telling them that they are next.
We again spent the day helping as many people as possible. We were able to locate a few more members today but many still remain missing. We fed 250 people along with providing many blankets and other basic necessary things. We were able to make arrangement with a supermarket which allows us to take what we need now and pay later. We are so thankful that God moved in the hearts of the owners to allow us to do this.
Because the trouble has lessened on our side of town we were able to take church members with us to the displacement camps. What pleasure it was in the midst of so much helplessness to watch the reunion amongst God’s people. I hope tomorrow to send a few pictures from the displacement camps.
Please continue to pray for our people. Please pray that God will allow you to have a part in helping these dear brothers and sisters.
If you can help we ask you to please send money for this desperate situation to our home church or mission board.
