A Principle as an Aside

It sometimes amazes me what you can learn from truth that is not even the main point of the passage you read in the Bible.  Here’s a truth that goes against the common conservative wisdom, but it’s right there in the Scriptures.  So, I wonder…  common conservative wisdom OR Scripture?  What should you follow?  How will you have to change your thoughts or actions to obey the Bible?

Behold, the third time I am ready to come to you; and I will not be burdensome to you: for I seek not yours, but you: for the children ought not to lay up for the parents, but the parents for the children. (2 Corinthians 12:14)

Well, maybe that wouldn’t go over too good.

But, I wonder if I had many readers, or readers that would comment, how many would agree with the teaching here and how many would find “practical” principles that would obviously contradict it and “prove” that it’s OK to “spend your children’s inheritance.”

  2. I read this a while back “For the children ought not to lay up for the parents, but the parents for the children” and what still comes to mind is Proverbs 22:6. Parents are laying up for the children by training them, and not vice versa

  3. When my grandparents left this earth.. they had everything prepared. We made one phone call and everything was handled. They were Christians. Contrast this with my unsaved parents who left us at a young age, before their parents..unprepared..unfinanced..we took loans to bury them. Not complaining..just thinking about the difference.
