The Gospel for Every Age

“The root of the matter is, ‘Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved;’ and that is the gospel for a child of two years of age, and the gospel for a man of a hundred. There is only one gospel for all that are born on the face of the earth — ‘Believe in Jesus.’” (“The Stern Pedagogue” in Metropolitan Tabernacle Pulpit, Vol. 20, p. 698)

  1. True, so it isn’t pray a prayer, so a child must know Who Christ is and what “believe” is. To get to that place, the child must understand why He needs to believe.

  2. I posted this because I was sort of surprised by the language Spurgeon used here. I know it was a sermon, but he edited all his sermons. So, I think he knew he said “two.”

The point you make is valid also. The two year old must believe in Christ.
