Well, I have not done this for probably about a month. Maybe 3 weeks. I really have had an aversion to working on my paper and have had many other good things to work on to keep myself away from my paper. That’s really a bad thing. I should be working steadily on this thing, but I hate it. Hopefully, I can get back to work on it and send off the prospectus soon to be signed.
In my reading for my paper and thinking during church services, I have had this theme come to mind a few times. “Occupy Till I Come.” I know that this is probably not the theological or even correct etymological use of the word, but I want to suggest a further meaning than what I, at least, have been taught about this phrase in the past. We are often told to occupy ourselves in the Kings business until he comes. And I believe this is the primary meaning from the context of the passage. We ought to be busy about the Lord’s business until he comes. But what is His business? Is that all His business involves? The thought that has recently come to mind is that we might think about the word occupy as in “occupation forces.” The earth IS the Lord’s, and the fullness thereof. We should be occupying the Lord’s land. We are not the losers in the battle for the earth. We are the occupation forces. We ought to be taking over every aspect of the world around us. When occupation forces take over, they make sure everything is done the way the victor wants it done, they do not stop everything from going on, just ensure that they are doing it the right way. The world around us is the Lord’s and we are His occupation troops. Everything (not just the “spiritual” things) around us should be brought captive to the Lord Jesus Christ. For the Christian, there is no difference between the spiritual and the secular; all ground is sacred ground, every bush is a burning bush. All ground is conquered land and my job is to occupy that land until he comes. Not just occupy myself, but occupy the land. When we embrace this idea, we see that occupying ourselves in the Lord’s business includes occupying the Lord’s land. And the earth in ALL its fullness is HIS. Occupy Till I Come!
